A reader wrote in wondering if I could give her a suggestion on what to wear to a casual rehearsal dinner. Here is her email:

"My boyfriend's sister is getting married at the end of February in San Diego. I have a dress for the wedding but I'm stuck on an outfit for the rehearsal dinner. I'm used to rehearsal dinners being cocktail attire but this one is more casual. I asked my boyfriend to ask his sister about the dress code and she said jeans and a nice top or a casual dress, and that a cocktail dress would be too fancy. Any ideas of what would look good? I'm open to jeans, a dress or a skirt. I want to look put together, somewhat conservative for his family (no low necklines), but still a little girly with a little edge or something that makes it fun. For things I already own that could be possibilities (not saying these need to be part of the look, just I already have them!) I have nice dark wash boot leg and skinny jeans as well as black skinny jeans, a nice black blazer, and a pair of great black suede pumps. My celeb style inspiration is Rachel Bilson, Blake Lively and Pippa Middleton."

The style of her wedding is country chic, and they'd like to wear cowboy boots for the photos that will take place in a vineyard. The guys will be wearing silver/grey tuxes and she wants a black or grey dress (cocktail length) to wear for the occasion. She loves lace, pearls, and anything vintage looking. She's 5'4" and favors a higher waisted dress or A-line style. For a strapless style she would need a jacket of some kind to cover her shoulders during the ceremony.
