Style Me Saturday: Professional Internship on a Budget

A reader wrote in and was wondering if I could give her some clothing suggestions for her masters program and internship. Professional attire is required for both and she is looking for some business/business casual pieces to integrate into her wardrobe. She's also on a budget - no item over $50.

I personally think the best bang for her buck would be to invest in some basic tops with pretty/feminine details or a fun color/print with trousers (I chose wide leg, any style you prefer would look fantastic - I also really like a slim/straight fit) in a neutral color (I chose khaki but black or grey would also be versatile). Simple, not too short skirts (I like THIS one) would also go with the tops, and you could pair them with a pretty cardigan or change out the blouse for a sweater in colder weather. I would stick with closed toe pumps, wedges, or flats and simple jewelry. I also think dresses are great, easy to throw on and look put together. Here are a bunch of tops that I thought would work well for a business casual environment (click HERE for the middle coral blouse) paired with some wide leg trousers from Old Navy (also come in a few other neutral colors). The second set are a ton of great dresses that I found at Target, paired with some not too high heels and stud earrings.
